Nayapana Estate has been granted Rs. 4 Mn from the National Inland Aquatic Development Authority for construction of 06 inland fisheries tanks.
These tanks are constructed adjacent to natural springs and in water logged areas.
This project was initiated by the Deputy General Manager HR/ Legal – Mr Greshan Nanayakkara, and is headed by Mr S. Vijayadas, the Deputy Manager of Nayapana estate, who has an extensive knowledge in this subject.
The welfare staff and beneficiary workers have been sent to the Kalawewa Training Center of NAQDA for an in-house training on inland fisheries cultivation as the first step of the project and the construction of the tanks area now in progress.
Objectives of this project are,
- To increase rain water harvesting and to improve water tables of the estate.
- To Supplement additional protein to the estate population for their diet as reach to quality sea food is rare in the area.
- To increase the income of workers trough additional income.
- To convert areas with health hazards effectively, such as mosquito breeding sites, as inland fisheries tanks.
